Question:A person is traveling at night, and the time for suhoor begins during the journey. Is he allowed to fast? Follow-up: My friend will be on a flight during suhoor time and will land at 6:00 AM. Should he fast?
Answer:In name of Allah, he may break his fast during the journey after dawn and make it up later. However, if he does not break his fast and returns to his legal home before noon, he must form the intention to fast and continue fasting, and it will be valid. Allah knows best.
Question:My job requires constant travel from place to place throughout the month. What is the ruling regarding prayer and fasting during Ramadan?
Answer:In name of Allah, if you do not remain in your hometown for ten days, then your work is considered travel. Accordingly, you are required to perform full prayers and to fast. Allah knows best.
Question:A student studying at the University of Baghdad, originally from the holy city of Karbala, asks about the ruling on his fasting and prayer: 1. He travels to Baghdad two days a week only and stays there until after zawāl (midday), but does not spend the night in Baghdad. 2. He has been doing this regularly since the academic year began in the tenth month, with a two-month break. Should he fast or break his fast?
Answer:In the name of Allah, know, my son, that you must fast and perform full prayers (tamām) at your university because it is your place of study. Likewise, in your hometown, you pray full and fast. If you pray while on the road, you must shorten your prayer (qasr). And if zawāl occurs while you are still traveling and you are fasting, then you must make up that day’s fast later. Allah knows best.
Question:I am planning to travel by air, and the flight time is at 1:30 PM, and I will arrive at 6:45 PM (the flight duration is around 3 hours and 30 minutes). What is the advice regarding fasting during Ramadan on that specific day?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if your departure from your city is after the sun has passed its zenith (Zawal or noon prayer), then you should fast. Allah knows best.
Question:If I stayed in an area for ten days. During these ten days, something happened and I wanted to leave the area and cross the religious distance, would my stay be interrupted?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if you left your place of residence and crossed the religious distance, then your stay has ceased. Allah knows best.
Question:A woman does not face any health problems while performing the fast during the month of Ramadan and she completes the fast smoothly. However, in a month other than Ramadan, whenever she tries to make up the fast that she missed due to menstruation, her health always deteriorates and she is not able to make up those days. What is the ruling here?
Answer:In the name of Allah, sharia rulings must be adhered to, and fasting is not valid during menstruation and cannot be prescribed. If she finishes fasting the month of Ramadan, she must make up the missed days even if she forces herself to do so, Furthermore, she must remember her standing before Allah, Glory be to Him, on the Day of Judgment, so that her fasting hardship is made easier for her.
Question:I am a teacher and I live 60 km away from my wife and two children because of my work. I used to visit them every week and come back the next day. Now, is my fast valid if I follow the same program? How do I manage my business and my family without affecting my fast?
Answer:In the name of Allah, you must abide by fasting, and pray in full at your place of work, as well as when you are with your family. However, if the noon comes while you are on the way, then you will make up the fast of that day after the honorable month ends, and you have to shorten the prayers if you are on the way. Allah knows best.
Question:If one travels before the noon in the month of Ramadan, and he knows that he will return to his country before the noon, is it permissible for him to break the fast during his travels, or must he abstain and fast after renewing the intention upon his return before the noon?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is permissible for him to break the fast after he has gone beyond the permitted limit, but if one does not break the fast and returns to his homeland before the noon, then he must abstain and make the intention and complete the fast as soon as he enters the boundaries of the town. Allah knows best.
Question:If a person travels before the noon prayer in the month of Ramadan, and he knows that he will return to his country before the noon prayer, is it permissible for him to break the fast during his travels, or must he abstain and fast after renewing the intention upon his return before the noon prayer?
Answer:In the name of Allah, It is permissible for him to break the fast after he has gone after the noon prayer, but if he does not break the fast and returns to his homeland before the noon prayer, then he must abstain and make the intention and complete the fast as soon as he enters the boundaries of the town. Allah knows best.
Question:A person enters the state of Janabat in a dream during the day while he was travelling. He returns to his hometown before the high noon without breaking his fast by any means. Can he fast that day?
Answer:In the name of Allah, he has to fast.
