Question:Must the prostration of forgetfulness (Sujūd al-Sahw) be performed before or after the three Takbīrs at the end of the prayer? Does the worshipper still need to recite these three Takbīrs after the taslīm if he intends to perform Sujūd al-Sahw? Must the worshipper recite tashahhud and give taslīm after Sujūd al-Sahw?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is better to perform it (Sujūd al-Sahw) before the three Takbīrs. It is necessary in Sujūd al-Sahw to recite the obligatory tashahhud and taslīm, which according to my view is the second formula: “Al-salāmu ʿalaynā wa ʿalā ʿibādillāh al-ṣāliḥīn.” Allah knows best.
Question:What is the ruling for someone who doubts whether they performed the bowing (Rukūʿ) during the first or second prostration, or after completing them?
Answer:In the name of Allah, if the doubt occurs regarding the bowing or the bowing glorification (Tasbīḥ) during the first or second prostration, it should be disregarded; the person should complete the prayer, and there is no fault upon them. Allah knows best.
Question:If someone recites the qunūt (supplication) mistakenly in a place where it is not prescribed during prayer, is he required to perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness (sajdatā al-sahw)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, the two prostrations of forgetfulness are obligatory. Allah knows best.
Question:Does reciting the three recommended takbīrs after the salām in prayer but before the prostrations of forgetfulness invalidate the immediacy (fawriyyah) required for the prostrations?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is better not to do so. Rather, one should immediately proceed to the prostrations of forgetfulness and then say the takbīrs afterward, as they are part of the post-prayer supplications. Allah knows best.
Question:Is there a specific prescribed dhikr in the prostrations of forgetfulness, or is one free to choose?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it has been narrated from the Infallibles (peace be upon them) to say: "Bismillāh wa billāh, as-salāmu ‘alayka ayyuhā al-nabiyyu wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh." Allah knows best.
Question:Is there any recommendation to recite three takbīrs after the salām of the prostrations of forgetfulness?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is not established. Allah is the Guide.
Question:Is there any recommendation (istihbāb) for saying takbīr between the two prostrations of forgetfulness and after them, that is, upon rising from the first prostration, descending into the second, and rising from the second?
Answer:In the name of Allah, there is no established recommendation for that. Allah is the Guide.
Question:Is it obligatory to pronounce the takbīr before performing the prostrations of forgetfulness (sajdatā al-sahw)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, it is not obligatory. Allah knows best.
Question:If someone recites the Tashahhud mistakenly in a place other than its designated position during prayer, is Sajdat al-Sahw (the prostration of forgetfulness) required?
Answer:In the name of Allah, yes, two Sajdahs of forgetfulness are required in this case. Allah knows best.
Question:What is the duty of someone who realizes, in general, after prayer that they missed one of the prostrations (sujood) or the tashahhud (testification)?
Answer:In the name of Allah, they must make up (qada') the missed prostration and also the missed tashahhud. After making up for them, they should perform the two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood al-sahw). Allah knows best.
